What: A photo story application, with a little more sophistication than Pim Pam Pum.
Ease of use: More features than Pim Pam Pum, with a slightly higher learning curve.
Writing application:
Simply select photos and layout graphics from the table provided - add speech bubbles to build your story. Comiqs allows for a more flexible layout, more like a traditional comic. Though it does lend itself to traditional story arc story telling, you might also find some students happy to experiment with more flexible narratives.
It's also worth asking your students about the traditional forms of comic writing and newer graphic novels which are building in popularity. Placement of images and text can have a profound influence on meaning in a comic, and are worth exploring when viewing your students work as a class.
With comics you can also explore more deeply, the many and sometimes contradictory elements of a characters nature. Using two or more speech bubbles, have students reveal more about what each character is thinking, feeling, fearing, hoping for. You'll be surprised at the results.
Suited: Upper primary and above
Teaching with an existing text: If you have images suited to a particular subject, you can use Comiqs to explore a historical subject for example - See examples in the Story section.
Update to this page: You can also try MakeBeliefComics , Pixton , Bitstrips or SuperHeroSquad as alternate comic building applications. Short learning curve, suited from late primary and on ... and great fun!
