Who is your audience going to be?

Will you self publish or submit your work to an existing publication? The following points will help you decide where and how you want to publish your story.

Publish in a group

Self-Publish

Self publishing in a blog or podcast can be a powerful way of expressing a point of view, and releasing your stories.

How will you publish?

The following list are suggestions of how you might decide to approach publishing your work.

Blog it - there are dozens of different blogging applications to chose from. Blogger and Wordpress are two good ones to select from, but the list is endless! Blogs are an easy way to start publishing material, and once you have a few pieces up you can start building a following. Don't expect a rush of visitors all at once, be patient and they will come!

Create a newspaper - This can be a very rewarding experience, but you'll need a committed team working with you with clear objectives. Use this Ehow guide as a starting point in your planning.

Podcast it - this is a great way to get your stories out into the community. With a radio journalist style production, podcasting is particularly well suited to recorded interviews. You'll find some great browser based software in the resources section.

Publish in an existing publication - writing articles to submit to an existing news organisation or website can be very rewarding. Most larger news organisations will have specific guidelines you must follow if you wish to submit a story for consideration. It's imperative that you refer to these.

Tag your story

When you've written your story, tag your story on Digg or Stumble, or one of the dozens of social networking sites that bring new media on the web to prominance. The way it works is simple, you tag your site on Digg, other users of Digg then become aware of your story. If they like it, if they think it's worth showing to others they'll tag it too. The more people that tag your story, the more that will see it.
